Physio-led Pilates: The perfect Pregnancy & Post natal Fitness

Mums to be have enough to deal with without adding more stress to their lives. That's why I provide physio-led pregnancy Pilates classes to help prepare and empower these women for a smoother delivery – both physically and mentally! The classes are designed to help maintain good posture during pregnancy while also building strength in the muscles around the spine, hips, legs, and back that support mothers beyond childbirth. I offer tailored sessions that focus on specific areas using slow, careful movements, stretching, and mobilisation, which can be easily adapted to accommodate physical changes in each trimester of pregnancy.

Getting ready for childbirth

Prenatal classes are ideal for pregnant mothers who want to prepare for the physical demands of childbirth.

Hormonal changes, such as relaxin, can increase joint mobility, while gestational diabetes may require adjustments in exercise and nutrition. Cardiovascular changes, such as increased blood volume and heart rate, can make workouts feel harder. Understanding these physiological and anatomical changes is important for promoting strength and ensuring a healthy and comfortable pregnancy.

Physio-led Pilates classes incorporate exercises, breathing techniques, and positions which prepares you to deal with pregnancy and labour.

Post-natal Pilates

Physio-led Pilates classes can help new mums looking to reconnect to their pre-pregnancy body and improve general wellbeing. My classes are excellent for strengthening pelvic floor muscles, improving Diastasis Recti, recovering from a C-section, reducing back pain, and improving posture and core muscles strength.

To support postnatal changes, developing strong core muscles, stability, and balance is really important. As a physiotherapist, I suggest starting with gentle exercises such as pelvic floor exercises and walking, gradually increasing them as mothers become stronger.
